Paul do Mar has been intimately linked to the sea many years; until the late 1960’s, the only access to the village was by boat, needless to say the fishing tradition is very important here. After that date a small road was constructed and nowadays new roads offer good access to this tranquil village.

The last few years have seen a resurgence of interest in the sea; the water is never too cold and the under-water geology makes it a very special spot for the practice of surfing and other water sports like body boarding and windsurfing. Many professional surfers in Europe consider Paul do Mar amongst the top European surfing spots.

The passion is growing and international tournaments have already taken place in these waters.
